How to Install Windows 10 in a Sandbox?

A guide on how to install Windows 10 Technical Preview builds in a sandbox / virtual machine.

Microsoft has been releasing Windows 10 Technical Preview builds almost regularly. These preview builds are a released for Windows Insider Program users. Anybody can download Windows 10 Technical Preview builds for free and install it to taste the new features of upcoming operating system by Microsoft.
Windows 10 Technical Preview builds are not purposed to be used as a regular OS for your working machine. But you can still enjoy the latest builds of Windows 10 on your computer. There are two ways to do this:
Grab an old computer, if you have it, and install Windows 10 on it by either making a bootable USB flash disk from ISO image or burn a DVD.
Run Windows 10 inside a sandbox / a virtual machine. This would not affect your system and you still will be able to enjoy the new OS builds on your working machine.
The second option seems more convenient as it saves your time and effort that you needed to put in messing up with some old slow computer. While installing Windows 10 inside a sandbox will allow you explore the OS without leaving your working computer/laptop.

How to Install Windows 10 Technical Preview in a Sandbox?

First of all, you’ll need to download Windows 10 Technical Preview ISO file. Make sure you’re downloading the latest version of Windows 10 preview build. Moreover select the appropriate version (32-bit or 64-bit) according to your system’s architecture.
Now download Oracle VM VirtualBox and install it on your computer. This software will allow you to install Windows 10 inside Windows 8/8.1, Windows 7, Vista, XP or any other version of Windows OS.
Run VirtualBox (after installation). Click on New icon, type Windows 10 and then select Windows 8.1.
VirtualBox will automatically set the suitable memory size allocation. You can accept it or modify it according to your system specifications and click Create. Wait for a while the process gets started.
When drive is ready to use, click the Start button in the toolbar.
Now install Windows on VirtualBox by following the instructions.
After installation has finished, you’ll be ready to run Windows 10 inside a sandbox. It’s safe and allows best possible Windows 10 test experience inside other Windows versions.
