[FIX] Windows Upgrade Error "This Upgrade Path is not Supported. Close Setup and Re-Launch from Root of Media or Pick Different Installation Choice"

Upgrading to next version of Windows (in case Windows 8.1 to 10Technical Preview), users are encountering annoying errors that don't seem to be genuine. One of these errors is:
Windows 10 upgrade build
Compatibility report (saved to your desktop)
This Upgrade Path is not Supported. Close Setup and Re-Launch from Root of Media or Pick Different Installation Choice

Windows Upgrade Path not supported Error
This error is reported when upgrading from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10TP. Fresh clean installation, however, is not reported yet about such type of errors as it is a clean installation and this error is an upgrade error.
Changing installation disks or installation media doesn't work. Several disks will show same error that shows that it's not a a case of corrupted file or ISO.
The error may persist in both Windows 32-bit and 64-bit downloads. Therefore, re-download or changing ISO might not help.
Same case with language editions. No matter you try same or different version of Windows 10 (or later) and Windows 8.1 (or older).
This error doesn't make a real sense because the path is valid and supported. Changing the path may give same error. It seems a false error. Such type of errors were also found in Windows Vista to Windows 7, 7 to Windows 8 and 8.1. Some techniques were tested such as running the ISO in compatibility mode etc. A very few methods worked to some users. But it seems that this error needs to be reviewed and solved by Microsoft itself.
However, after a few research, a working solution was found to upgrade Windows 8 to Windows 10 technical preview with no errors of this type. This is not a very technical solution, but only a trick that worked perfectly.
NOTE: Please make sure that your older version is supported to upgrade to current version of Windows OS that you want to upgrade. For example, you can't upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 10 directly. Same with Windows 98, if you remember that. This guide will not work in such case.
Here is a simple method to fix upgrade problem:
  1. When you encounter this error, Exit the Setup.
  2. Now go to and open Windows Setup folder, the folder of your DVD, USB disk etc. that you are using to install Windows.
  3. Open Sources folder and locate/find installprep.exe file.
  4. Run this file. The setup will start and installation will start.

Windows 10 Installation Fix
This file will allow you upgrade from previous version to Windows 10 (or later) without installation path error message. This method is tested to upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 technical preview successful result.
